If you wish, you can generate a percentage of occurrence score by dividing the number of errors of a particular phoneme or phonological process by the number of the sample size on the test. For example, if the student made 13 errors with stopping, you divide 13 by 29 (the sample size indicated in the stopping column at the bottom of the protocol or on the results page) to determine that stopping occurs 45% of the time in the child's speech.
The checkmarks indicate that the phonological process exists in the correctly produced word. A circled checkmark indicates that an error was made for that process. For example, in word #33 on the protocol (shown on the right), for the word "brush" the child omitted the /r/ in the cluster so the checkmark is circled.
The dots in the column indicate that an error with that phonological process is possible but not natural in that word. For example, in word #29 (juice) the child produced a stopped phoneme for the /s/ in juice so the dot is circled.
Add up all the circled checkmarks or dots in each column on both sides of the protocol. Write the total number of errors for that process at the bottom of each column in the "total errors" box on the backside of the protocol and on the summary page.
Yes! If your style is to transcribe every word, or you want to transcribe just the unusual productions for some words, there is a space next to every target word for transcription or any notations. Sound errors can be marked on the already transcribed word or next to the target phoneme.
